The cultipacker is a heavy, iron roller, usually with iron cleats, that enables the operator to roll over soil after it has been disked by the harrow to crush dirt clods, remove air pockets, forming a smooth, firm seedbed. The cleats help the cultipacker get traction and roll so that it firms the soil evenly. The purpose of the cultipacker is to ensure shallow seed placement, good seed-to-soil connection and enable the water to contact the seed.
